Vigipirate anti-terrorist security plan

Until further notice

Following the terror attacks in Paris on friday, november 13, 2015 and to ensure the safety of our visitors, the BnF is strictly applying the security measures decided by the french authorities.
The library is fully opened.

In order to ensure the best reception of BnF readers and visitors, we ask them to note the following safety instructions:

  • any public access point is equipped with walk-through metal detectors. We wish to thank you in advance for facilitating security controls and cooperating with staff members,
  • please bring proof of identity to enter the BnF,
  • the West entrance is closed until further notice. Visitors should use the East entrance. Within the building, the Western Hall and Café des Globes are still available to users,
  • only “cabin” baggages (55cm × 35cm × 25cm) are allowed within the BnF premises,
  • the Museum of Coins, Medals and Antiques as well as the exhibitions proposed at Richelieu Library are closed on Sundays.

Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience and delay which may be caused by the extra security checks at the entrance.
