Reserving seats and documents (Research library)

Reserving seats at the F.-Mitterrand Library (Site F.- Mitterrand)

Seats must be reserved. They can be reserved for immediate entry.

Before you can reserve a seat or documents, you must hold a valid reader pass for the Rez-de-Jardin level.

Types of seat

There are various types of seat, corresponding to different document media: basic seats for most printed materials, audio seats, video seats, etc.

Some seats are reserved for persons with disabilities : in the reservation system, choose "Situation de handicap", then "Mobilité réduite". There are also sound proof booths for visually impaired readers : choose a seat "Lecture et déficience visuelle".

Readers can connect to the internet using their own computers at any “basic seat with internet access”. Many ordinary basic seats also offer internet connections.

Reservation procedures

For the same day or in advance, you can:

  • reserve seats using the online reservation service, available through the "Espace personnel" (from 10:00 for same-day reservations);
  • reserve seats on site from any BnF computer.

In advance :

Seats can also be reserved in advance by calling the following number on Mondays between 13:00 and 19:00 and Tuesday to Saturday between 09:00 and 19:00: 01 53 79 57 01.

If you are delayed or need to cancel a reservation:

  • You can cancel, or change your arrival time if you are delayed, using the online reservation service. Click on “Change time” in “Manage reservations”. This option is available for both same-day and future reservations.
  • You can notify the library by calling 01 53 79 57 01.

To be noted

  • You may reserve up to five seats up to 30 days in advance.
  • Seats should preferably be reserved from your planned arrival time to ensure that they are available if you are delayed.
  • Certain specific types of document (e.g. oversize and microform documents) require a special seat; these seats are allocated at the reading room desk in addition to the reserved seat.

Contact the INA information point at the East readers’ guidance desk or at the Inathèque reception desk in room P.

Reserving documents at the F Mitterrand Library

A release request must be made to consult closed-stack documents.

Reserving documents on site

The following quantities may be ordered :for same-day consultation

However, no more than 25 documents may be ordered on any given day.

  • 5 items of printed material

Reserving documents online

The following quantities may be ordered using the online reservation service, either for the same day or in advance:
  • 5 items of printed material
  • 5 microforms
  • 5 items of audiovisual material
Orders may be placed by calling the following number on Mondays between 13:00 and 19:00 and Tuesday to Saturday between 09:00 and 19:00 (for advance orders only): 01 53 79 57 01

Warning

Documents are reserved by telephone using their classification, which must be provided by the reader.

Reserving documents at the Richelieu Library (Site Richelieu) (Manuscripts and Performing Arts departments)

You can prepare for your visit to the Manuscripts or Performing Arts departments by reserving your documents at least 48 hours in advance. To make a reservation, you must hold a valid reader pass that includes access to the Research library.
