Photocopy, printing, photography

For legal and preservation reasons, the collections are subject to certain restrictions on reproduction. Any reproduction is subject to current legislation and to the agreement concluded with the Centre français d'exploitation du droit de copie (CFC):- less than 10% of a book and less than 30% of a periodical.

Extension to the right to take photographs

The BnF extends digital photography to copyrighted documents and in all the reading rooms. This change, made possible by the evolution of legislation, will make study and research work easier.

Photography of a document in a reading room

The BnF readers are free to photograph with their personal cameras the documents belonging to the BnF collections. The photographs taken are strictly for private use.

It is forbidden to photograph computer screens, audiovisual computers or microform readers. Certain documents (market studies for ex.) cannot be photographed for legal reasons.

In case of fragile documents, the librarian will adjust the shooting conditions.

Photocopy

Reference Library (Haut-de-jardin level) of François-Mitterrand Library

Any document available in the Reference Library can be reproduced except for theses on microfiches and certain documents from the PRISME (Pôle de Ressources et d'Information Sur le Monde de l'Entreprise).

Copy machines are in free access in the reading rooms. Payment can be made in cash or with a card.

Card distributors:

  • In the readings rooms, except for rooms A, E and I.
  • The only distributor to give change is located in room J.

Research Library (all sites)

Two types of copies can be made in the Research Library: copy with print-outs or, in case of documents over 90, reproduction on a digital file. In the latter case, the reader recovers the file on his / her USB key or on a website.

Print-outs are made by the members of staff.

  • François-Mitterrand Library: in the reproduction spaces located in rooms MN, P and T (on Mondays, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. and from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.).
  • Richelieu Library: in all the reading rooms.

Payment can be made in cash or with a card.

Card distributors:

  • François-Mitterrand Library:
    • Rooms MN: on Mondays, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. and from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.).
    • Room T: on Mondays, 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. and from Tuesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
    • The only distributor to give change is located in rooms MN.
  • Richelieu Library: in the hall, at the bottom of the stairs leading to the Department of Coins, Medals and Antiques, and the ground floor of the building giving access to the Maps and Plans Department and to the Department of Prints and Photography.

Printing from computers

It is possible to print or download digital data from a computer located in the reading room; this is subject to property rights and can be made only strictly for private use. The documents belonging to the digital legal deposit cannot be printed or downloaded.

Printing is a paid-for service with a SEDECO card. These cards are available at the reception desk, in the reading rooms.

Downloading made on the computers equipped with a USB port is free of charge.

Prices

Photocopies, reproductions of microforms and print-outs are payable with the SEDECO card sold in the copy-machines areas. Price of the card valid for one year: 2 € (including 1 € of copies).
