Ask a librarian (SINDBAD)

SINDBAD (Service d'INformation Des Bibliothécaires A Distance) is a free reference service providing

  • document references (books, journals, music CDs, films, etc.) on all subjects
  • and factual information : biographical elements, facts, figures and dates.

Up to 15 bibliographical references can be provided ; maximum time allocated to searching is 1 to 2 hours per answer. Response is provided within 3 business days to questions asked using the form.

Before asking your question, have you consulted the BnF's online catalogues or Bookmarks (the Signets de la BNF, a directory of selected Internet sites) ?
To ask about cultural events, or practical information (access to reading rooms policy, reproductions of BnF materials , etc.) or a professional question (legal deposit, ISSN, etc.), use Write to BnF.

SINDBAD cannot respond to requests for :

  • in-depth bibliographies
  • estimates or appraisals
  • advice on legal or medical matters
  • press kits
  • market analyses
  • answers for contests or quizzes
  • assistance with school assignments
