Since 2008, the Bibliothèque nationale de France has been supporting the Emerging Talent Award organised by Photographie.com, Picto, Nikon and Initiatives. The exhibition is devoted to the works of awarded artists and to the most talented projects selected during the four annual sessions; it has become a major moment of photographic news that allows visitors to discover emerging young artists.
Collections of photographs have been collected and enhanced at the BnF since 1851; there is nothing strange about the institution’s tendency to promote young photographers. Moreover, the event has increased in scale since the organisers opened it to new media such as small multimedia works (POM) that show the plastic nature of a constantly changing medium. The fruitful combination of various points of view, the different perceptions of a moving world, another way to grasp reality, undoubtedly give visitors food for thought and enrich their viewpoints. Is it a breeding ground for talent? Actually, many of the awarded young photographers then won famous prizes such as Jürgen Nefzger (2008 Niépce award), Stéphanie Lacombe (2009 Niépce award), Lucie & Simon (2010 HSBC award), Xiao Zhang (2011 HSBC award). The BnF supports with great interest this initiative at the heart of contemporary photographic creation.
