Description and access

Materials available in the library are described in accordance with strict rules laid down at both an international and a national level. The aims of catalographic description are set out in the form of key principles in respect of which there is international consensus. The general structure of bibliographic descriptions is laid down – again at an international level – in the ISBD normative text. In France, the ISBD rules are adapted in the form of standards laid down by AFNOR. A very recent cataloging code, RDA, could become the international standards framework.
