The digitization process

Digitization is a set of activities leading to the production of materials in digital form. It involves a number of both logistical and technical steps, which are made all the more complex by the volume, diversity, and heritage value of materials to be digitized.
All the activities involved are built upon specific operational procedures and technical choices. These are all recorded in documents, which are used to draw up specifications that form the basis of contracts, and subsequently to monitor those contracts. One such document is BnF’s Technical Digitization Charter (Charte technique de numérisation).
