Formats and encoding
Traditionally, bibliographic descriptions have been encoded using formats belonging to the “MARC” family of formats. This monopoly has been challenged by the development of web technologies and the emergence of the “metadata movement”’. Growth in digital resources has led to the development of an extremely simplified format known as the Dublin Core standard. The XML language opens the way to formats that can be used to make both bibliographic and archival information compatible with web development. The following pages are only in French.
